What is Kenpo?
The art of Kenpo that is taught at the Gacuya's Kenpo Karate can be traced to the style developed by James Mitose and William K.S. Chow in the 1940s on the islands of Hawaii. Modern Kenpo is influenced by several martial arts including Karate and Kung Fu. It was primarily developed as a street fighting system which chose the most effective techniques from more traditional arts. Kenpo blends powerful, linear movements with flowing, circular techniques to make a style with quick strikes and effective in close range fighting; making it an ideal art for self defense!
